Grief

We have been as close as friends for so many yeas, if not from infancy. We attended the same school while after secondary school. His family was of the wealthy class, while mine was the directly opposite. I was fortunate I passed and admitted to one of the universities. He could not pass, his father tried all means to get him into a university in the country but all did not avail. His father decided he join his elder brother in the stats. Tried as he could, that one also did not materialize. He was then advised to reseat the examination. It could be deducted that Patrick was the saddest boy the town.

In the absence of his mother, I went to Patrick’s house to meet him in a chart with his father. Because of this Patrick advised that I came the following day. I went on the said time only to meet the guard dog which had always been in chains let loose. It gave me a hot chaise that I climbed onto a guava tree in the house, whilst the dog breathed threateningly under the tree in wait for me. An approaching car which I presumed was the dog owner unfortunately was not. This made the dog retreat to the corridor; I jumped down and butted away

After that hot pursuit, I went home to relax. Patrick came in with two policemen and just told them, ‘he is the one’. I was arrested and the charge was that I was involved in a theft case in Patrick’s house and left my voter’s ID card the scene of the crime. I was taken to court after three days my parents gave me a bail. Just before my case was read, two men in cufls were brought into the room; they confessed that they stole the money with the connivance of Patrick after he had given them my ID card to place at the scene to implicate me.

This secret came out when Patrick refused them their fair share as he had promised. He was then arrested for the crime committed. He apologized to me that he did that due to the deep hatred he had developed for me. Since I have moved ahead of him in education despite our various social classes and as such had made people see him as an academic failure. He therefore wanted my education to end abruptly. This is somebody I called a friend. What a world we live in.
