Joseph M Stowell is the 7th president of the Moody Bible institute of Chicago and the voice of the award winning radio program "Proclaim”. He speaks of going to the Chicago Leadership Prayer Breakfast after the happenings of September 11th, 2001. Earlier he says the name of Jesus was freely used in prayers and sermons alike at the breakfast. But that has been changing. Now there seems to be an intentional effort to eliminate references to Jesus by the speakers. The one who opened the early morning get-together said that he had discovered that there was a new religion in America which demands a new paradigm shift regarding the expression of faith. He called for a fresh era of co-operation and tolerance.

The representative of his Islam chanted his prayer in the name of Allah, a woman Rabbi, a Catholic priest and a minister from a Protestant denomination each led in prayer. Then they all finished by praying in unison. Mr. Stowell kept waiting to hear the name of Jesus, but it was not mentioned even once. No one said that Jesus was not welcome, but the message was clear that all the Gods are to be equal .The representative of the Trinity church said that “After September 11th a whole new sense of the importance of God had returned to America.” But he also said “Given the broad diversity of religions in America, they needed to give up the traditions that divided those of whom believed in God.” He praised the diversity the prayer segment had expressed.

Mr. Stowell then began to realize why Jesus was unwelcome. He was being told that “The Only Way” Jesus didn't fit into the new religious order. That morning he wished he could have proclaimed the good news that Jesus welcomes all who will come. Having asked them to give up the traditions that divide them, it is clear that “the tradition”, the speaker was asking him to give up was “Jesus.” Jesus said “I’m the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the father but by me” .And the apostles reaffirmed this message that there is “No other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” So there is no point in being quiet, but a Christian must always say that Jesus is the only way to the Father.
