Not too long ago, some high winds blew through here with rain, hail, and at least one tornado. Then the sirens sounded. I had the whole family go to the basement, and we turned on the radio. We were safe in the basement.

If you saw small children playing in the yard while the siren was blaring, would you say anything? Would you do anything? Or would you go to safety and not say anything?

These thoughts ran through my head as I drove down my street and across town. They flashed through my mind as I paid for my groceries at the check out. I am surrounded by people playing in the yard while the siren is blaring. A storm is coming, and there are people headed for destruction all over the place.

"But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up” (2 Pet 3:10).

It is serious enough that God went to great lengths to provide a means of rescue. There is a shelter from the approaching firestorm. We must be in Christ to escape the coming devastation. There is simply no other place to go. Will we take the opportunities that come our way to show people where safety is? Will we make the opportunity so that those who will listen will be saved? God has commissioned his church to show people where the shelter is.
