The Feast

By: Patricia Charlton

Standing at the doorway to the castle, her body trembles with excitement. Ever since the invitation arrived, she longs for this moment. What will she experience? Will she experience this: "Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise.” (Psalm 100: 4 NLT) Smiling with anticipation! She experiences joyful/overwhelming praise. Why? Because the invitation states: “Look! Here I stand at the door and knock. If you hear me calling and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal as friends.” (Revelation 3: 20 NLT) The King is knocking at her heart’s door. What will she do? The big wooden doors swing open at her touch.

The light from the crystal chandelier sparkles over the long, finely polished wooden table. Each place setting is adorned with china plates, crystal glasses and silver cutlery. Everything sparkles with the glory of the King! The warm, crackling sound from a fireplace entices her to enter. Everything she reads concerning this: “You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You welcome me as a guest.” (Psalm 23: 5 NLT), will be a reality.

“He would welcome me as a guest!” she thought. But where is the King? Footsteps can be heard in the hallway. Trembling! She will not hide from her friend the King. There he is, in the doorway. The blinding light from his face overwhelms her. She is not afraid! In the presence of the King, she anticipates this: “You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence.” (Psalm 16: 11 NLT)

She notices the King was carrying two large books. “Are you looking for the way of life?” said the King. “If so, come follow me!” He turns and walks towards the wooden table.

The King of Glory, also, invites you to this feast of His word. Will you open the door of your heart? There is a way of life! Come! Accept His invitation and follow Him to the feast!

Very nicely written. I had a couple of things I stumbled over (might be more a problem with "me" than with "Thee) but I would have said: "Smiling with anticipation, she experiences joyful, overwhelming praise." and
"Though trembling, she will not hide from her friend the King." What a wonderful picture you've painted.

A nice written piece. The greatest feast we ever received is when He opens His arms to let us join dining with Him.
