But the Lord answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only a few things are necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her." Luke 10:41-42

Often in life I discover myself living a Martha existence, however my heart desires to be a Mary. There are many "good" options out there whether it's attending a church gathering, volunteering, spending time with friends, children's activities, the list goes on and on. We can be so active doing "good" things that we fail to remember to stop and do the best thing, listening to the Lord. He's at all times there, waiting to give us guidance.

Do you take notice of those calls as he waits patiently for you to stop your commotion? Do you heed or do you push them to the side? If you are anything like me you get so wrapped up in the "good" that when the time comes to do what's best, you are so exhausted the Lord only gets the leftovers.

Make a pledge to start and end your day with the best thing, even if it means sacrificing some of the "good" things in order to have time to heed to those calls. We have the decision every day to be less of a Martha and more of a Mary. Which will you choose?

Prayer: Lord, open my days, free the time I need to blossom into a Mary. Help me to assure that I seek you and heed to your calls, even when it means giving up things that I enjoy. Help me to settle the commotion I can get so caught up in and truly sit at your feet.
