It came about in a decree from Rome,
That the entire world was to pay tax;
This meant traveling to your home,
With only the clothes on their backs.

Every man to register in their town,
Where they were born and raised;
So it meant Joseph had to go down,
Into Bethlehem for to be appraised.

He took along Mary his wife to be,
So she could also be put on the list;
With a child soon to make it three,
No need that tax deduction missed.

When they arrived, what a crowd,
With no vacancies for to be found;
Being a humble man or not proud,
Thinking of sleeping on the ground.

But a man told him about a stable,
Be warm and dry for what it is worth;
As part of the plan for God be able,
Of the baby Jesus to be given birth.
