Short Stories
With an issue of time magazine in my hand, I roamed around in the library searching for a place that would provide me with a piece of sunshine. The month of December has always been my favorite time of the year. The foggy mornings, the chilled air, the sunshine, the bon fires and the amazing food have always fascinated me. With an intuition that the sun outside the window will reach over my head in a few minutes, I sat down and was soon proved right. I could hear whispers from all around as no one has ever been given enough freedom to break the rule of ‘maintain silence’ in the library. Despite such a huge school building, library has always been my favorite place. It is such an amazing feeling to be surrounded by uncountable golden treasures called Books. Silently sitting down with our eyes dug deep into the books, we get to realize the importance of silence in our life.
Now that I have only one more year to spend in this school, I tend to agree that Schooling is definitely the best time of one’s life. The very thought of parting from my friends and the school that has nurtured me so well for seven long years gives me jitters. I cannot afford to imagine myself as a person away from my school, my second home that has constantly given me so much, but the sudden realization of the fact that it has to happen one or the other day gives me courage to come out of my protective shell and face the big world outside.
Suddenly, the librarian’s voice instructing the students to uphold discipline forced me to come out of my mindless thoughts. I then gave a look around the library only to find the reader’s jam over the newspaper stand to read their horoscopes, graffiti and fill SUDOKU. Then took place the ironical event, initially, I was desperately searching for a place under the sun. But now, I had started to feel a bit warm, thanks to the bright sunlight. Folding my sleeves up till my elbow, I started to read the ‘Time’. Then, started the affair of continuously turning the pages and pausing at some to give a thorough glance or reading something catchy.
And then, I heard the bell ring symbolizing the termination of the class and my thoughts. And I silently slipped out of the library thanking the librarian for she manages a place so well that is no less than a sanctified site for me .
