Darkness surrounds me

No light, no escape

I’m hanging on a cliff with all my strength.

My arms are weakening

One finger at a time losing its grip.

The night begins to embrace me

Holding me tighter

Suffocating me.

This darkness surrounds me

And gravity is taking its toll.

I’m quite certain my strength is almost through.

A distant thought passes through my mind,

A remembrance,

A voice telling me to let go.

Just to fall to my death?

To drop to my end?

The possibility of a never-ending hole,

A hell in itself,

Living with a constant fear,

When shall I hit the bottom?

And from which side of me will my deathblow come?

I hear it again, louder now

“Let go!”

I close my eyes, how I wished that it made a difference.

I’m down to my last finger,

I’m losing my grasp,

I breathe in one last breath of air

Using my last bit of strength, I take heed of the voice.

My eyes closed,

Waiting,

Seemingly floating in air.

Am I falling?

Am I dead?

Bravely I open an eye,

But just as quickly shut it again…

The light is far too bright for my eyes to handle
