I’m coming slowly to understand that the writers’ life has to have extended times of solitude, balanced with Community.

Balanced! Sometimes that word is on my side. Right now it isn’t. I like my own company. I like to be alone. Mostly, I don’t even listen to music, anymore. I get frustrated when my writing, thinking or reading is disturbed. Feel free, however, to interrupt me when I’m doing the housework. I even have a clock timer to remind me to get off the chair, stretch, wash a dish or two. Sometimes I don’t even hear it!

In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus said to Peter: ‘There is a part of you that is eager, ready for anything in God. But there's another part that's as lazy as an old dog sleeping by the fire.’ (Matthew 26:41. The Message)

I’m eager and ready, Lord. For anything! Inspire me and I’ll write about it. Just don’t draw me out of my comfort zone. While God is urging me back into community, I’d rather stretch out by the proverbial fire where it’s safe and warm.

I have to give God one hundred percent for subtlety. First the on-line community now….

Library Lynn walks with Jesus. She invited me to join her writing group. I was excited and honoured. I already knew and respected each of the three members. I said ‘Yes.’ After all, talking about writing was safe.

We met. We embraced when we met! The first hour and a half they shared the personal things that had happened since they last met. They enquired sincerely about me. They loved each other, and me, extravagantly; just like Jesus does.

Eventually, the conversation turned to writing, and I relaxed.

Unbeknown to me, I had accepted an invitation into Community.

Little steps. Little steps.
