Many things come our way in life and, the older we get, the more we have to deal with health issues, death and unforeseen tragedy. Some try to deal with these things on their own and, some are able to make us believe they are successful, but it is not so. Deep inside they are wounded and torn, they are bruised, but they never talk about it. They live day after day depressed, angry and, hopeless.
It is my belief that God is always with us and has his hand out offering us his unconditional love, his healing, his comfort and, his guidance. The only requirement is that we ask.
Over the last 15 years of my life I have personally lost 6 family members and friends and, I know countless others who are going through cancer. Others have had numerous surgeries. I have friends that have lost many in a very short period of time, but have the strength to go on through their belief in God.
I believe we realize, as we get older that, we all die. We realize that this world is not our final destination. This knowledge is priceless
The inspiration for this poem comes from a traffic accident involving Jonathan’s father. I have known him for about 15 years now and he is a part of my family. So easily he could have been gone. He is still here. His time has not come. His destiny has not been fulfilled. There is still work for him to do. And so, what happened to him provoked thought and he is the inspiration the following piece.

It could be today
It could be tomorrow
Something will happen
That brings such sorrow

The loss of a loved one
A close brush with death
Tragedy unforeseen
To take your last breath

Who will greet you
On the other side
Will you run toward them
Or run and hide

Are you prepared
For what is to come
Will you continue your journey
Or will it be done

What will the book say
About your life on earth
For it will all be revealed
From the day of your birth

Will you hear the words welcome home my child
You have served me well
Or will he say; I never knew you
And send you to hell

Will you enter the gates
To an incredible land
With streets of gold
And mansions grand

Will you visit with family
That had gone on before
Or will darkness surround you
Forever more

Are you ready today
If your number comes up
To sit at the table
With God and sup

With all that has happened
This past year
I wonder these things
But not with fear

I know there are things
That I need to do
To secure a place in heaven
When this life is through

I talk to God everyday
He helps me make it through
He guides me through the hard times
Tells me what I should do

These are the things that I think about
The things carry me
And one day He will take my hand
His kingdom I shall see.
