There are some things you understand
The day your father died
Some olden hidden memories
Swell up from deep inside.

The way he held you as a child
Those toys on Christmas night
That fishing trip in big old boat
And lessons how to fight.

But you won’t be the same again,
The day your father died
Cause whilst your aching heart is sore
It opens up your eyes.

You see anew your father’s life
His failures & his heights
You wish he’d have another chance
To try & make things right

But one thing you can know for sure
The day your father died
Despite all woe & chill & gloom,
There’s place for hope & light.

To see your father’s eyes again
Embrace him with delight,
You’ll find all this in Heaven’s Love
Just cling to faith & light!

So, friend, alas – you’re man indeed,
The day your father died
You understood what many knew
Was meaning of one’s life.
