Youth

The day time and morning of life
A time of exuberance, activity productivity,
Vigour, vitality, passion, action, adventure, dreams.
A time to yearn, learn and earn.
A time seek the kingdom.
A time to stride, reach and climb,
Scale mountains, cross rivers,
Take risks, invest,
lay the foundations for graduation;
a time to pitch the tent,
Explore the universe,
Challenge status quo;
Go wild and mad;
A day of rebellion.
Time to put the roots down
Time to find the meaning of life
Time to fire your imagination,
Discover and uncover,
A time to find God
And His purpose for life.

Old Age

The night of life
The frame becomes frail, wobbly and dancy.
‘The grinders are few’
or all gone on holidays for ever.
The windows and shutters are dim.
The ‘daughters of music fail.’
‘The almond tree blossoms.’
The voice goes quivering,
Blindness ensue,
Some go deaf and tuneless.
The matchstick body goes impotent.
The silver lining your clouds fade.
The worlds is blurred
The moon and stars are darkened.
The clouds return after the rain.
Strong men bow down.
The fear of height heightens.
Fear of the unknown deepens.
The silver hair invades and attacks.
The desire and appetite fail.
Passion wanes and dries up
like a sea on a final ebb.
You wake up at the first note of birds,
And at the crow of cocks.
‘Doors are shut in the streets.’
Death is coming to greet
And steal away forever.
‘The grasshopper is a burden.’
The vultures gather
To eat the remains
Of the lion on the way out.
The summer is gone.
Winter is come.
‘The hum of the house fades.’
‘Muscles slacken, joints stiffen.’
‘shades are pulled down.’
No more mountain hike
Evening stroll is a bother.
