Prayers

God is in the process of answering the prayers of a believer in his or her every day personal walk with him, not only when when crisis arise, but as an on going answer to prayer in the things that concern us and our lives in every way personally as well as in our corporate lives with each other. I have experienced this in my daily prayer lifestyle for many years and have a written record. An example of this relates to our family.

Our son, Eldon Jr., (J.R.) experienced severe asthma attacks for several years following his birth. Those events would drain us to the point of exhaustion as we cared for him. We spent many nights during those years in the emergency room seeing doctors and getting medicines for him to breathe. Each time we returned home from the emergency room, the night was spent void of sleep while we walked the floor and held him in an upright position so he could continue to breathe properly until the attack subsided. A temperature always accompanied these attacks. Each time an attack would happened, I would pray first of all that God’s will would be done in the matter, I would also pray that God would relieve his suffering, and heal him and that he would help us to be the best parents and to do what was necessary at this time to help our son be healthy. I asked God also to bring to my mind any thing that would help him during these times whether spiritual or physical.
One evening Eldon Jr. experienced a more severe attack than usual. He was two years old at this time. My husband, Eldon, was in the military and on security alert at the base. I took J.R to the emergency room. When he was stabilized, I returned home. He went to sleep on my shoulder about two hours later as I walked him back and forth. That was surprising since we usually spent most of the night walking him after an asthma attack before he could rest and sleep. I tucked him into bed and wondered how long he would be able to rest. I walked into the living room feeling weary and completely exhausted. I began to really focus on God and I prayed, “God, why does our son have to endure this so often? You have made it crystal clear from his very beginning that he was a special gift to us since my doctors said I would never have a child and if I did conceive, it would be a miracle. We waited many years, and you sent him. It is so hard to watch him as he struggles to breathe properly. I just wish his daddy was home. He seems to be gone so much with his job when this happens. Thank you for taking care of J.R. tonight and letting him rest sooner than usual in these times.

I heard a sound from J.R's bedroom and as I walked into the room, I noticed his eyes were open. I asked, “How are you doing, son?” He replied, “Momma, can I sing?” I said, “Yes, of course you can if you want to.“ He began singing in his tiny childlike voice this song:

Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so,
Little ones to him belong, they are weak, but he is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me, Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so.

I felt J.R’s forehead. He had no temperature and his breathing was completely normal. My first thoughts as I wept. “And a child shall lead them. I thank you God for answered prayer and for being the healer and the comforter. Thank you for always being with us.” According to doctors, J.R. out grew the majority of his allergies in the next few months, and ten years later, God blessed us with another special gift, a daughter named Joy.

This event is one of many in my daily prayer life that confirms that God answers the
believers prayer in his or her every day walk with him because of his love.
