The most important part of a hebrew's clothing was the "tallit" or prayer shawl. It was his personal tabernacle where he could pull the tallit over his head and pray. This way he could have a private time in prayer with Yahweh, no matter where he was at. What made the prayer shawl a "prayer shawl" was the tassels that hung down from the four corners of the shawl. These tassels had knots and strands that spelled out the words, "Yahweh Echad", which means the Lord is one. The tassels were sacred to each jewish family, for the tassels reminded to obey God's laws and commandments each day. In fact, it was a stoning offense if a jew from another family would even touch the tassel of another family. The only one that could touch the family tassels were family members only. If a wife or child came to the father needing help, the wife or child would grab one of the tassels in their hand. The family member would say to the father pray for me, I need help. The father would take his tallit and while he had it on and would wrap the folds of the tallit around his family member which meant, yes, I will pray for you. As Jesus was walking through the crowd that day, there was a woman who had an issue of blood. She used up all her money on doctors, but instead of getting better, she had gotten worse. She knew that Jesus was her last chance to get well. She also knew that she was not a blood relative to Jesus and that she could be stoned to death for touching His family tassel. But what did she have to lose? I'll either die from the issue of blood or by stoning, she may have thought. The woman was desperate. She began fighting her way through the crowd until she saw Him! It's Jesus! If I can touch the hem of His garment I shall be made whole! Sure enough she grabbed the tassel in her hand as if to say,"Lord Help". Jesus felt healing power go out of Himself. "Who touched me?" The woman tried to hide herself from Him, but when she knew that she could hide no longer from Jesus and the crowd. She ran and knelt before Jesus and told Him that she had been healed when she touched Him. Couldn't you just imagine all the looks she may have gotten from the people? She touched Jesus' family tassel and she is no blood relation. The people may have started grumbling. They began to look for rocks to prepare to stone her. Jesus knows what's about to take place. So He looks at the woman and calls her "Daughter, your faith has made you whole. Go in peace." Jesus called her daughter. When Jesus said this the crowd must have thought, maybe this woman is related to Him after all. The crowd throw the stones to the ground. The woman is safe. This is the only time in the Bible that Jesus calls a woman "Daughter". In closing, isn't it good to know that when we need help, we can go to our Heavenly Father and touch the family tassel and say to God, "Father help". Then God takes His spiritual tallit and brings us close to His breast and wraps the folds of His tallit around us and says, "Yes son or Yes daughter I will help you! For you are my child!" Praise God!!!
