The Plagues of Egypt

All the E’s down in Egypt, liked the Pharaoh a lot
But the Hebrews that lived there, they sure did not

Pharaoh was mean and he made them all slaves
His men would beat them and whip them if they’d misbehave

When he saw Hebrew babies he would not smile
He tossed all the boys right into the Nile

One woman knew of Pharaoh’s creeds
She hid her son inside of some reeds

A girl came and found him, she was Pharaoh’s daughter
She named him Moses, for he came from the water

She raised him in Egypt but he soon ran away
One day in the wilderness a burning bush started to say

“I am God of your father, and I need your hand
To help take the Hebrews to the promise land”

With the help of Aaron, his brother, Moses agreed
He would work hard until the Hebrews were freed

God game them great signs, to help with their part
But they couldn’t get through to Pharaoh’s hard heart

Pharaoh didn’t let the people go, and Moses didn’t beg
Aaron raised his staff and God unleashed the first plague

All the water turned to blood there wasn’t a drop to drink
The fish all died and it started to stink

This didn’t work but God knew what to do
Aaron lifted his staff and came plague number two

Frogs came from all over the rivers and streams
They were in people’s ovens, beds, and their dreams

Then Pharaoh said “Lift the plague and I’ll let you go”
But did Pharaoh keep his work? The answer is NO

Moses and Aaron said, “We’ll make him see”
Aaron lifted his staff and down came plague three

Now Egypt is dusty, there is dirt all around
But when the staff hit the dirt there was none to be found

The dirt turned into gnats, that swarmed in great size
The gnats were not lonely, ‘cause next came the flies

Since Pharaoh hardened his heart, just like before
God brought on the flies—that was plague four

This wasn’t enough, they needed plague five
It was diseases, no animal would survive

The livestock all died, not leaving a one
Next came plague six and it was no fun

Moses and Aaron took soot in their hand
Tossed into the air, it covered the land

It turned into boils that everyone got
Not one single person was left with no spot

Spotted and speckled the people did cry
But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, God only knows why

It would have been nice to toss Pharaoh in jail
But instead of that God brought on the hail

Fire and hail rained down from heaven
This plague was called, unlucky seven

Most crops were all ruined, they had not much to eat
But what they had left, was the spelt and the wheat

Plague eight happened with just the lift of a hand
The grasshoppers came, and covered the land

The crops were all eaten right down to the bone
But Pharaoh’s heart, was still hard as stone

So God pulled the ninth plague out of the sack
And all over Egypt came a pitch black

Darkness had fallen, upon everyone
No stars in the sky, No moon and No sun

The Hebrews, however, they still did have light
Light in their houses, morning and night

After this plague when the sun had no beam
Pharaoh found Moses, and to Moses did scream

“Get out of my sight, do not see me again”
But the last of the plagues, was the worst of all tem

Moses DID leave and saw Pharaoh No more
He instructed the Hebrews to put blood on their door

Pharaoh’s heart was still hardened, like when they’d begun
So plague number ten, brought the death of a son

The first born son, would be killed on that night
Unless there was blood on your door and you did everything right

They called this the Passover, and there was a great feast
But at midnight the LORD, killed man and killed beast

The son of the Pharaoh, he too hit the ground
Because on his door post, no blood could be found

The Hebrews didn’t lose any, of their firstborn sons
But the people that all lived there, they did lose tons

Now Pharaoh was angry and sad all the same
He called for Moses and Moses heard him exclaim

“Take all your people, get out of my sight”
They picked up and left, on that Passover night

Thousands of men, went on their way
Guided by fire in the night, and a cloud in the day

When the people were gone, Pharaoh then felt remorse
He called for his servants, his cart, and his horse

All the horses and chariots that pharaoh could find
Chased after the Hebrews with one thing in mind

To bring back the people, the people he’d freed
So they could make bricks, dig wells, and plant seed

The Hebrews followed Moses, right up to the shore
But at the Red Sea, they could go on no more

Pharaoh was gaining, his men closing in
But his final battle was about to begin

Moses lifted his staff and stretched out his hand
The Red Sea then parted, creating dry land

The Hebrews got up and went on the trail
The men of the Pharaoh were right on their tail

After the Hebrews reached the eastern shore
Moses lifted his hand on the Red Sea once more

Now the walls of the sea that had risen so tall
Came down with a crash on the big and the small

The men of the Pharaoh, drowned in the sea
And the Hebrew people began singing with glee

God had saved them from Pharaoh and his evil hand
On they would go now to God’s promise land
