Larry Lilly's Letter Monday October 31, 2005

I read an article the other day titled, "Why Your Dog Is Smarter Than A Wolf." The article is very interesting and full of insight for training dogs and husbands. Dogs learn to trust in their masters for direction and fulfillment, while the wolf will continue to rely on its own abilities. The Mrs. pointed out that this truth also carries over into the domestic relationship.

The closing line of the article states:

"Dogs are very motivated to cooperate with and behave like people, that's why dogs can do things no other animal can do."

The Great Blonde asserts that a 'good' husband is the same in that they desire to please the wife.

When the wife of my youth made this statement I earned a few more nights in the Canine Quarters by quoting an earlier line in the article which talked about some of the training that included, "feeding by hand, coddling and doting on them."

I am now repenting in sack cloth and ashes for wording this information in an unacceptable form, said form being, "Feeding by hand probably is not carrying home a bag of cold hamburgers from the Scottish fast food and throwing it on the table saying, 'Here, eat this."' Not a wise choice of verbiage.

We are raising Max, our grandchildren's dog, which was rescued from a large used parts facility. (Junk yard). We were certain that Max was having fits, when lo and behold, the Vet discovered he was snookering us into getting things his way. He was not experiencing a form of epilepsy, but was acting out his aggression and thus establishing himself as the Big Kahuna. Dr. Cook instructed the aforementioned wife of my youth to take firm charge and to issue commands to Max instead of sweet suggestions. The Great Blonde asked, "Like the way I command Larry?" I hear from the grapevine that the good Vet replied, "Hey, it works for me."

So, Max, the rescued critter from the Junk Yard, is now undergoing what is known as "Corrective Therapy For The Obstinate Husband/Canine." He and I are now more closely bonded than I ever thought possible.

Before my closing statement I would ask that you do not under any circumstance forward this to Heritage Animal Hospital or to the Great Blonde. A 41 year marriage hangs in the balance.

Control is always an issue in life. Will you attempt to live your own life, or will you surrender to the plan of Christ for your life?

I love the humor in this article! I'm sending it over to my husband at work. It should get a chuckle.
