THE PIPER
(another birthday)

Hear the piper, time is calling
fallen warriors follow suite
Life is short – death is long
the piper plays a waning tune

Hear the piper, time is calling
thy spirit dance draweth near
Youth is but a passing season
laughing in a pool of tears

Age is yet our mortal folly
embrace it not as something dear
Time, it counts a clocks illusion
birthdays are simply another year

‘Tis age we fear with friends so fair
like rainbows fading in the air
Gone are yesterdays childish dreams
upon the piper’s tune it seems

Oh chase the night as shadows fall
gray upon the ivy walls
Where once we sat with stories told
to find them now but growing old

As truth is found within a mirror
birthdays find another year,
another day, a year gone by,
another tear softly cried
to wash away forsaken tunes
squandered nights – stalking moons

In silence rest upon a hill
where age yet finds us lying still
among the stars of forgotten dreams
long lost friends who’s callow schemes
cut deep a scar in tender hearts
now silence holds the answer what

Unspoken truth denies angry hope
shallow love upon it chokes
For no one wins but finds their shame
part of life despite a name

True peace of mind one shall hold
one that humble honor knows
Shame grows meek, guilt darkens the eye
deceitful tunes are but words that lie;
All shall find God’s hidden truth
upon the pipers spirit flute
