Imagine, if you will, that you are the first-born of twins. And your brother has always wanted to take your birthright (the rights as the first born) away from you.

So one day you come home from hunting, famished. You probaby haven't eaten in days. And what you have hunted would take time to clean, prepare and cook.

As your home comes into view, you see your brother making stew. "Good, good, something to eat," you think to yourself. Your tastebuds watering all the way up to the dwelling.

Then your brother lowers the boom on you. "I will give it to you if you give me your rights as the first-born son," he bargains, probably letting you smell the stew, scooping it up for you to see how good it looks.

You are so hungry that you are weak, and you think that if you don't give your stomach some food soon, you will die. Your only goal, at this time, is to keep yourself from dying. What good is your birth-right if you are dead? So you give in and give him your rights.

This is what happened to Esau. His brother Jacob swindled him out of his birthright.

Do you know that we are in the same situation? When we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we were adopted as God's sons and daughters. And as sons and daughters of God, we have certain rights. The right to have our sins washed away, the right to be healed, the right to be prospereous, the right to have nothing missing and nothing broken in our lives.

We have a Jacob too. Someone who is trying to take our rights away from us. The enemy doesn't want you to know what you are entitled to.

That's why we have to read the Bible and find out what God has promised us. We have to know our rights as children of the Most High God.

We have no trouble finding what rights we have as citizens of our particular country or what we are entitled to as students or employees at a certain instutition, but somehow we are afraid to dig into the Word and find out what are rights are as a child of God.

The Bible is God's Will. When someone leaves a will, they are expressing their wishes about what you are to receive. God will never die, so once we accept Jesus, His Will becomes effective. But if you don't know what He has promised you, then you cannot receive it.
