They followed God’s instructions to the letter. They built the perfect house for God.

But then God came down here in the flesh, and told them that they didn’t need the temple anymore and they shut their hearts to Him.

He told them that He would tear down the temple and build it three days later.

God is, who He is, and the One with all the power, so He did what He said and He left the building that they had built for Him and He has never returned.

But mankind is stubborn. He does not want to give up the things of this world and so God will leave Him behind as Jesus left behind the rich man, who would not give up the garbage in his heart, to make room for the Grace of God.

God does not live in temples or churches anymore. He lives in the hearts of men who will repent of their sins, accept the forgiveness of Jesus and receive the power of the Christ to overcome sin. (God’s Grace upon us). God has told us that His new temple is Jesus, who is the perfect temple for the Spirit of Christ, the Word of God, the Immanuel. Because the Lamb of God died for us , so that we could be made perfect, He told us that He would no longer live in buildings, but would now live in men.

Do I still go to churches? Yes, I go looking there, looking for the temples of God. But to be honest, I have found more temples of God out on the dusty streets, where they are spreading God’s good news, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to the world.

Churches have become a place for the temples to gather and to encourage each other.

We must never forget that the church building is no longer God’s house and when we leave the church, we take God with us into the world. We take God’s temple to those in need and we must remember that when we go into the world, we are proclaiming to the world, God’s Son in us .

9 For we are God’’s fellow workers; you are God’’s field, you are God’’s building. 10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’’s work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone’’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. 16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

Romans 8 (New King James Version)

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors——not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ““Abba, Father.”” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs——heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
