Grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters
Inspired wisdom of the ages past;
Given by golden tongues and gentle hands
With strength of spirit so incredibly vast.

If we look closely, we can see it in our eyes,
Feel it in our bones, know it in our hearts.
We are given life and we pass it on
As one generation ends, another starts.

God gives us the gift of endurance
Through the mountains and valleys of life;
We rejoice, we laugh, we struggle and weep,
How well we know the art of sacrifice.

We are all here at this time and in this place
To care, to cherish, to help, to edify, to love;
A rib to strengthen, to support, to add structure
For each other and for those yet undreamed of.

Let us be like a hand-hewn stone bridge
From the distrant past to the immediate future;
To embrace every footfall on the path
And be a guide, a steady light, a source of
Nuture.
