We bow down,
we lay our crowns,
At the feet of Jesus.
The greatness of His mercy and love,

I always used to think the crowns I need to lay at the feet of Jesus were my crowns of victories, strengths, successes, triumphs and honors, blessings and joys. The crowns the Lord Jesus wants me to lay at his scarred feet are my emblems of glory, right? Surely, the beautiful jewels of my life and all its splenderous things are what He desires.

But then recently, while singing that song in church one Sunday, the foreign and quite surprising thought that literally flew into my mind was this: the crowns I need to place at the Savior’s feet were my crowns of thorns. These, of course, are my disappointments and sorrows, frustrations and annoyances, spiritual weaknesses and defeats.

Unlike the crown of thorns placed on the head of Christ, which was twisted and distorted, and a mess of misery wound together by mortal sinful men, my crowns of thorns the Lord chooses to place in my life resemble a tapestry, skillfully and carefully woven by the Master’s hand.
