“Give Love & Be Loved”

Jesus’ main priority to be here on earth might have been to die for our salvation. But His second priority might have been to show us how to love, because love can lead us into His Heavenly Kingdom. While Jesus was here on earth, He showed His love for us in many ways. His love was never only for a small elite group of righteous people, it was for everyone who was willing to accept it. And although He left us many examples, some even recorded, on how to love one another; somehow today we have for the most part strayed from that definition of loving.

In our world today, love is not necessarily followed by happiness. Today love is so over used that that the purity and beauty of it has been tarnished. Love should be the Christian yoke. But love is the most misused, abused, over used, misunderstood word in our human language. Depending on the whim of the moment love can mean just about anything. For some people love means lust. But lust can not be love, because people who lust manipulate other people. People who lust exploit other people for their selfish needs. And anything that is done for those reasons can never bring anyone happiness. No, lust brings hate, because when the other people find out they are being used they tend to hate those who are using them. Then they hate themselves for allowing them to be used.

That is why we pray, “Lord, spare us from using people whom we should love. Then spare us from loving the things which we should only be using.” The second half of that prayer speaks about how we love “things”. And when we want many things, it often turns into greed. Lust and greed both brings us to darkness. Those who are lustful or greedy can talk about their many conquests and escapades, but neither ever leads to true lasting happiness. Have you ever met a lustful or a greedy person that is truly happy?

God wants us to be completely happy. Jesus has showed us how to achieve that complete happiness. Look back on His examples, and seek total happiness for yourself. Love people as you would love God and as God has loved you. That is the key to heaven.
