I did not have a boyfriend until I was nineteen years old. He was seven years older than me. He was experienced…I wasn’t. He brought up the subject of sex, and I said no. Then he asked me if we were going to have a relationship, would I like him going to another girl to have his sexual needs met. I then gave in. On the day that we had sex, I heard the Word of the Lord telling me that this was wrong. Although it hurt, I was really crying because I knew I was sinning. I went home on that hot August day upset with myself. I had lost my virginity to my first boyfriend, and there was nothing I could do about it.

I started business school in the fall of that year. Around November I got really sick. I came home from school and lay down on my bed. I was in pain in my stomach area. I decided that this was my punishment from God concerning my sin that I had committed. I decided to bear the pain as my punishment and not complain. I considered it to be my just sentence. My mother came in my bedroom and looked at me. She asked me if I was alright. I said I would be fine. She came back again. She said that she did not know what acute appendicitis was, but I looked like I had it. She rushed me to the emergency room. The doctors examined me immediately. They went out, and came back in a hurry. As the doctor was telling me that my appendix was about to rupture, they were injecting me with the first shot to take me to emergency surgery. I had no chance of thinking about whether I needed the surgery---it was important to get me on the table fast!

After the surgery, the doctor who performed the operation said that I came just in time. As he was removing my appendix, it burst in his hand! If that poison had gotten into my system, I could have easily died! But God had mercy…even though I had sinned!

I never thought about His mercy toward me until I was saved one year later. I thanked God for His love toward me, and I continue to thank Him today for not letting me die before I could hear the Good News of Salvation for my soul!
