Bitter loneliness From A Sparrow's Point Of View

It is freezing out here. My feet are clinging to the shingles as I sit here all alone. I dare not open my beak to sing a song. I have no friends or loved ones to share, only the warmth from the chimney eases the pain. I have grown so cold. Silently I have been waiting here for the mistress of the house to come out. She brings me a pan of cornbread to eat. How could anyone notice me? I am just a sparrow alone on the roof top.

"There you are my little friend, look what I brought you today, " "It's your favorite food you see." " Go ahead eat all you like, and get full," " It will be so very cold tonight."
I eat my fill of cornbread and then I return to the roof. I am dreading the lonely hours that lie ahead. Here I am again, sitting here alone, the sparrow on the roof top. I have grown so very cold.

The mistress of the house is sitting there in her room. There are no friends or loved ones to share. The fire in the fireplace is her only comfort through the darkest hours of the night. Her feet have become like ice . She longs for someone to hold her, but she knows those days are passed. All her loved ones have gone before her, and she's the last.She thinks about all those who have forgotten her and she speaks outloud, "I have grown so very cold," " I am just like a sparrow alone on the house top," " Will anyone notice me?"
