Overlooking Calvary

I took a trip to Israel
A trip of a life time
As I stood overlooking Calvary
Listening to the pastor speaking
Of another place and time
I felt as though I was standing in the crowd
At the foot of the cross where Jesus bled and died
As I watched I could almost feel his eyes upon me
Looking down at me with loving tear filled eyes
I could sense His tender heart as he said
"Don't cry I'm here to set you free
I am here to ease your troubled heart"
Then he said the darndest thing
"Forgive her Father, she knows not what she does"
Even while hanging on that cross
With the weight of all those sin he bore
And the strips on His back
There with the crown of thorns on his brow
He thought about me
Then I thought about my life
My hurts and pains, the stress and turmoil I bore
Even then I could only think about me
And the things I was going through
As tears came to my eyes I bowed my head in shame
I had nothing to complain about
Nothing compared to the pain my Savior was going through
I though to my self I don't need riches or a beautiful home
I don't need that new car
What I really need and want
Is the love of my Glorious Savior
Hanging there on that tree
And the hope that is gave me
Of a life eternal in heaven one day
As my thoughts were broken by the sounds below me
I returned to the group, as they started to sing
The beautiful old song "At the Cross"
There at the foot of that old rugged cross
I planted my burdens that day.
