A stranger came to church today
And no one caught his name
No one bothered to approach him,
Or to say, “I’m glad you came”

His clothes were clean, tho slightly worn
He did nothing to stand out
He’d heard they taught of Jesus –
Someone he wanted to know more about

He looked around at people
All caught up in their worlds of strife
Never bothering to reach out
Trying to touch someone else’s life.

When it came time for the pastor’s prayer,
They all turned towards Him to stare
But when the message had been given,
They forgot He was even there.

What would they’ve done if it was Jesus
Who visited that day?
I wonder if they’d been surprised
To know the Lord had come their way?

Had they known, He’d have been welcomed!
And they’d have crowded close to say
“Come to our home, sit at our table…
Oh, please Lord, come and stay”…

You just never know who’ll show up
And be seated in that pew –
Will you stare, or introduce yourself?
The choice is up to you…

Turn up your nose, and walk away?
Or take that stranger home?
You never know when He might come
As someone you didn’t take time to know…
