“How Sweet It Is!”
Wednesday, July 6, 2005 †
“For I satisfy the weary ones and refresh everyone who
languishes” (Jeremiah 31:25).
“Amazing grace how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now I’m found, was blind but now I see,” (Newton 1779). For anyone who has experienced the loving grace of God in their life, they know how wonderful life can be. But if we wander away from God, not only can there be no grace in our life, but often there is also no life. Have you ever received a true amazing act of grace in your life? It is difficult to determine something like this because we’ve heard this phrase, like many others, used so casually and so often that the power of its meaning is lost to us. In today’s time we taste and see so much so fast at first hand, that the authenticity and romance of meaningful subjects are lost in the wind. Thus, for instance the soft whispers of someone’s “I love you” or the sincere pleading behind someone’s cry in the “Lord’s Prayer” is no longer a promise for tomorrow or a heartfelt melody for help but rather, they are just another set of ordinary spoken words. So, what could be an example of a true act of grace given by God that would cause us to be in complete amazement? We know with God it could be anything, and anything from God would indeed make our life sweeter to live.
Hence, today I want to give my testimony to you that God is good. God is great! God is beyond any positive adjective I could use to describe Him at the moment. Although I have heard it before, and have even said it myself before with pure conviction – I must tell you I now have seen it truly for myself, God is also omnipresent. Please hear this next sentence carefully: God see and feels all of your struggles, pains, sacrifices, tears, joys, elations, contentment, successes ... He is there for it all! I know you’ve heard this said many times, as I did, and maybe even with a nodding of the head you believed it but you didn’t honestly believe it with the heart. Right!?! Let’s be honest with each other – I know how you feel because I was the same way till I experienced an “amazing grace”.
Our Heavenly Father is a true awesome Father! He was there with us every step of the way – laughing and crying with us when appropriate. And though we may have not known it, He was there to shoulder the worst of our pains when we were traveling the Calvary(s) of our lives so that we would not have to bear the brunt of the suffering by ourselves as He did during His time. Each of us has a cross to bear. Maybe we were in an abusive family; or had an alcoholic parent or spouse. Maybe we contemplated suicide for whatever reason too many times; or we were already dead being that we were living a depressed life filled with days and nights of self abuse and defilement; or maybe it was beyond our control because we were constantly ill – chronically ill, sexually abused, or born into a life of war and poverty. Whatever it may have been life was always so painful it hardly seemed like God was there to help us. But then again, seeing the places we were at there was so much darkness and evil that it seemed highly unlikely God would ever be present there. Does any of this sound familiar or close to your thoughts or experience? These were some of my thoughts as I was becoming of age.
Thus, as I was carrying my own crosses-of-life, treading through my personal Calvary(s), the Lord reminded me of my promise to The Almighty, that is I should first focus on reprioritizing & succeeding in God’s will; do this He said, and the big obstacles in my life shall be removed from my paths. What once seemed impossible will one day be waiting at my front door. And you know- for once, I prayed hard to be given the faith of the Holy Spirit to believe just that. – I don’t know what I believe, but today my doorway is filled with endless possibilities, however, I realized the ultimate possibility was with me the whole time…and that was to have the Lord Almighty watch over me, lightening my load (because realistically I would have been crushed beneath my load without The Father). In return I got to be apart of His divine life by fulfilling His will, God, a King of all creations. What could sound Sweeter?!! SOO-WEET!! … so sweet is my amazing grace.
