“Our Greatest Fear”

I sit here trapped in this darken room unable to feel anything around. Only the voices outside of my jail keep me company. How long have I been here? How long will I remain? Those are the questions that gnaw at my conscious mind daily. In this darken cell I neither know day or night, sunshine nor moonlight. I remain a prisoner until my hour comes.

"I think it is about time for this one.” I hear them say.

Recently, I have begun to hear screams coming for down the hall; screams that curdle your insides to mush and tug at your very soul. I know my time, my day is near. Even though I hate these confining walls, they have become my haven, my sanctuary from what lies just outside my doorway. I know that so long as I cling to them, so long as I remain as uncomfortable, uneasy as I am, I remain safe for one more day.

“No, this will come out today,” comes the voice outside my prison walls.

My day is at hand. How will I react? Will I be calm or go screaming? Will I face my greatest fear, the unknown, with un-swaggering faith or shall I fight for every breath that my prison walls provide me? Did they not say this day would come. Did they not warn me, when I first entered this prison cell, that soon and very soon, my day would come and I would have to face my greatest fear and look beyond today into tomorrow. Oh God, prepare me now. Give me strength where there now lies weakness. Give me hope where there is doubt. Give me faith that I am able to cling to and will comfort me in these my last hours. Let me go quickly, stepping out of this darkness into your marvelous light.

“Ah, here he is. It’s a boy!” And so the story goes.

COMMON SENSE SAYS: The unknown is our greatest fear, yet trusting in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we have comfort in knowing that He will be there for us and remove all our tears away.

F>E>A>R False evidence appearing real!! Fear is what the enemy always uses to stop a believers progress. But praise God that He has not given us a spirit of fear, He has given unto us a spirit of tremendous power, of love and a sound, well-balanced, calm, disciplined and confident mind!! . This is an excellent short-story Charles. You can really get into this one!! Well done and thanks for sharing.
