The book of Mark opens with an introduction to the first prophet to Israel in over four hundred years.
Mark 1:3 calls John the Baptizer “The voice of one crying in the wilderness,...”
The people had been in a long period of spiritual lethargy. John was the messenger sent to wake them up. God was going to move again.
John’s message? “Make ready the way of the Lord, make His paths straight.” The Promised One was coming and John warned everyone who heard to be prepared to meet Him face to face. God was finally going to accomplish His promises of a Redeemer for Israel, but Israel needed to be ready.
How were they to prepare? By confessing and repenting.
We, too, must prepare to meet Jesus face to face. We, His church, must listen to John’s message and confess and repent. We must admit we have fallen away, turn from anything that distracts us or pulls us away from Jesus and turn back to God. We must allow Jesus to be our Head.
John was sent to tell the people of Jesus’ coming so they would be ready. Jesus is coming again. Are you ready?
