Can You Here Me Now?

‘If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it…does it make a sound?’
Of course, the answer is yes. But some researchers say it is a different sound than that of a tree that falls when no one is around. The difference in the sound is said to be related to ‘human stress syndrome’ or ‘systemic biological changes that take effect when a human is within 300 meters of a tree.’ This effect is said to cause brittleness in the cell walls of the tree thus being responsible for the difference in the sound it produces and the quality of the lumber it will produce. Trees that fall without the effect of ‘human stress syndrome’ have been found to have wood that is often soft and wet and unsuitable for building.

What about when we fall? The Bible says in Psalms 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” But how does the presence of God make a difference in our pain? Everyone at some point experiences difficulties in life. Even those we often esteem as strong, courageous and “having it all together,” encounter circumstances that can weigh them down. However, because God is near we never have to bear these circumstances alone. Proverbs 24:16 says “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again.” And what is a “just” man? Simply, a man that lives by faith.

So, the next time you’re feeling that life has no volume controls and no one can hear you saying “Enough already!” God not only hears… He also cares. And just as beautiful edifices are constructed from fallen trees, when we trust every aspect of our lives to God we can be assured, “God knows what He is doing. He has it all planned out – He plans to take care of you, not abandon you, He plans to give you the future you hope for.” ‘He’ hears you when you fall!
