THE EYES OF JESUS

I saw the eyes of Jesus,
as He turned and looked at me.
His gaze was gentle, but full of pain,
I knew that He could see.
I had made a promise I did not keep,
of that there was no doubt.
My sin had hurt the one I loved,
and I knew that I was out.
And yes, I wept such bitter tears,
like none had come before.
The lie I had told had come between
me and my precious Lord.
But despite the pain within his eyes,
in my grief I also saw.
Complete forgiveness and pure sweet love,
and I heard his quiet call.
“Please forgive me Lord.” I cried,
then I felt His gentle hand.
“You’re forgiven...” I heard him say,
“And yes, you’re still my friend.”
What joy can fill the hearts of men,
when to God they fully yield?
The grace He gives removes all doubts,
and makes the strongest shield.
There is nothing to compare,
with the love which I can see.
When I behold the eyes of Jesus,
as He turns and looks at me.
