“Beloved, while I was making every attempt to write to you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.” – Jude 3

In a nutshell, Jude’s intentions were to write about one thing (salvation) but changed to another, namely fighting for the faith (resurrection in this context). I know how Jude felt. No, I was not going to write about salvation, but I know what it is like to have to change subjects. See, I intended on writing about one of my coworker’s recent encounter with God. Instead, my “Jude experience” is pointing me to write about something entirely different. So to my coworker and to you, I apologize for the switch, but this topic deserves priority.

My rationale for this writing is two-fold: (1) I want to make Christians aware of what is going on in society; and (2) I want believers to wake up and speak out.

June has been designated Gay/Lesbian Pride Month. Now before you think I am another evangelical who is about to beat gays over the head with the Bible, hear me out. I in no way support the gay/lesbian agenda. Homosexuality is a sin and I will never say otherwise. But I admit we live in a democracy, so while I wish men and women would choose otherwise, the choice they make is theirs. They are going to answer to God for their choice, not me. Our job continues to be telling them the truth about Jesus, in love (Ephesians 4:15). That brings me to my thesis.

I work for one of the biggest Property & Casualty insurers in North America. Through its diversity and inclusion efforts, my employer has elected to give the gay/lesbian agenda a platform to present and promote its message. That agenda is allowed to use company time and company facilities. While I disagree with this decision I respect my employer’s right to make it. But what I do not agree with is the selection to exclude Christians’ access to the same forum/platform the gay/lesbian agenda has been given. I was told this was basically a business decision but I believe the policy count of believers far outnumbers that of gays. I asked for the right to set up a booth and offer gospel tracts to interested individuals. The answer remains no. So much for diversity and inclusion!

The company’s answer came as no surprise. Paul said we would see a time when people love ungodliness and themselves more than righteousness (2 Timothy 3:4). He said some would follow this deception to their eternal detriment (2 Thessalonians 2:10). Jude taught there would be those who follow the path of sinners past (Jude 10,11). The company’s willingness to allow the gay/lesbian agenda is unfortunately a microcosm of society.

Now that you are aware of what is going on, here is what you can do to help:

1. Pray, not only for companies with attitudes like my employer, not only for homosexuals, not only for Christians who have to endure discrimination, but pray also for the church that has sat idly by with its hands in its pockets and allowed things like this to happen.

2. Get involved in personal evangelism (Mark 16:15,16). Sinners are doing what they do best – sin. The best way to decrease the number of sinners and their sin is to turn unbelievers into saints.

3. If your employer is doing as mine, use and encourage other believers to use the open door policy (if one exists) to express your view. The decision may not change but at the least, your company will know there are others with an opposing viewpoint.

4. Most of all, and this is extremely important, remain respectful. Being respectful does not mean you agree. Being respectful means you want to glorify God to foster the opportunity to present the gospel (1 Corinthians 10:31 – 33).
