On Sunday, when we pulled up to church, a Mocking Bird was
perched on the very tip of the cross that is on top of our steeple.
She was beautifully singing through her repertoire. I said to Betty,
"I wonder of she's singing, 'ON the Cross of Christ I Glory' ." I
love Mocking Birds.

I'm told that Mocking Birds mimic songs that they hear other birds
sing. That makes me wonder, how can that bird with its tiny brain
have enough intelligence to do that? Then I wonder, why can't I,
with a much larger brain, do more than I do? I know that part of
my brain is actually dead from the stroke -- it's the part that
controls my left side motor functions.

I'm also told that we all have far more brain cells than we ever use.
In fact, that's what the therapists do in stroke rehab -- they try to
teach an unused portion of the brain to mimic and learn the lost
functions -- I suppose you could call it the Mocking Bird effect.

Just like a Mocking Bird, our lives make beautiful music when we
try to mimic the qualities of Jesus Christ. Some have better natural
singing voices than others, but the song I'm talking about is the life
that sings, "Take my life and let it be consecrated Lord to Thee."
Maybe you don't sing that wonderful song of dedication in your
church anymore. What a shame. It's a gem!

In each case, just as Matthew's call came as recorded in Matt. 9:9,
Jesus used only two life-changing words -- "Follow Me." That
simple command has many facets, one of which is to mimic His
wonderful caring qualities. He's still calling the same challenge to
you today -- "Follow Me." Will you?
