There are mountains we must climb
And journeys we must take.
Each one meant to lead us onward
To a cause for His name’s sake

No matter where we travel
Or how many times we thought
That we could never finish,
T’was the devil’ s lie we bought.

Stumbling blocks along the way.
Became those stepping stones
To lead us into triumph
When we felt all alone.

We picked up tiny rocks
That wedged inside our shoes;
Made it hard for us to make it
And we felt we would lose.

Little rocks that hinder just a bit
Become thorns in our side
And make our hearts unpleasant
For His Spirit to abide.

We think we can ignore them;
Or they’ll just go away.
We keep on forging to the mark
As they erode away.

Soon they’ve made a painful sore
That we need help to heal.
That pain would not have happened
If we’d taken time to kneel.

Kneel within His presence,
Take off that dirty shoe
And shake that painful rock away
To be made whole and new.

Keep on pressing to the mark.
Be patient in your call.
Beware of those besetting rocks
Sent to make you fall.

Be quick to take the time
To sit and take them out
So you can make it all the way
And hear the victory shout!
