How high the cost for a season
of knowing you! The bond we had,
the sharing, the encouragement
was beyond price. The parting,
the letting go cuts into my heart
like a scalpel. Excising part of me
in excising you.

The price of friendship is letting go
and it's a price too high to pay.
But who knows what the future holds?
If parting is only for a season,
then our friendship can grow stronger.
Saying good-bye, then, is the greatest gift
two friends can give.

Every season apart will be winter
of the heart. The joy we shared
cannot be found in a thousand others.
For we were kindred spirits, you and I,
born of God with the same gift...
the ability to soar with one another
and show the world the face of God.
