Whatever is true...

"That outfit just doesn't flatter you. Let's look some more..."

"You really weren't very nice to the new girl in your Sunday School class today. Why don't you go over and introduce yourself, and try to start fresh with her?"

"I know you think that every opinion I have about you is biased, but..."

Whatever is noble...

The missionary continued. "It's not unusual for the children in these communities to be healthier than the mothers, because the mothers sometimes don't eat, so their children can."

The man in the last row nodded, recalling how his own mother had gone without for the sake of the children, and had put aside her own hopes and ambitions.

Whatever is right...

"Lord, I know it would be easier for me at this point to just give in and let the little monster win this one. But give me strength! I must hang in there, and establish the boundaries! I can't give up, I won't give up, I'm not gonna give up!"

Whatever is pure...

"My precious child, I'm here with you now. I know you hurt so much, and I know you've fought so hard. Hold my hand and close your eyes. Yes, Mommy's going to miss you, but it's time for you to stop fighting now, and be with Jesus. Yes, Sweetie, relax. Let go..."

Whatever is lovely...

"Wow, Mom, you really hit it out of the park tonight! Everything is beautiful, and the food! The whole spread is delicious! Hey, I know how hard you worked on this, and how many hours you spent in the planning, and cleaning, and cooking, and all that stuff. You did it--congratulations! AND, you look GREAT! Is that a new hairstyle? Where did you get those shoes, and that..."

Whatever is admirable...

The preacher's kid nudged her sister with her elbow. "There she goes again." Their mom was making her way to the altar to pray with a sobbing seeker, which had been happening as far back as either girl could remember.

If anything is excellent or praiseworthy...

"Mom! What are you still doing up?! It's late, and you're no night owl!"

"Well, I just wanted to go over these papers one more time before I hand them back out. It's such a large part of their grades..."

...think about such things.
