AWAKENING

A Song awakens me.
Thrilling—
Was I overtaken
by sleep?
The darkness was so normal,
So deep,
Disturbing.
Chilling—

But really, so ordinary.
The dreams, the crush of screams
So much the same every day.

I thought I was awake.

SLEEPER, ARISE, CHILD!

There, again!
Same refrain.
Odd.
Nothing llike it
In this gloom ever.
Never was the Darkness serenaded.
Pity.
Its clear tones
Tempt,
Touch me from where!
Sounds or substance?
Dream or solid??
Is Darkness reality??
For so long there was only
Darkness
Consumed with despair.

SLEEPER, ARISE, CHILD, “I AM” CALLS YOU.

What? Am I mad??
A wind caresses me.
Darkness
so stagnant;
It never blessed me before.
My eyes can,

but barely see,
the Shadow world
changing, rearranging,
for me.
Do others see??
No excitement save from my own heart.
The pounding deafens me.
A pin-prick
dazzles
eyes.
What can this be?

I BRING YOU LIGHT.

“Light, an unusual word. Who brings What to me?””

“I AM” BRINGS LIGHT TO HIS CHILD.

“Sir, who are you??
What is light? Who is your child?”

SO MANY QUESTIONS, LITTLE ONE.
I COME
TO TAKE YOU
WITH
ME.

“To where?? Are you a friend?
Enemy?
A scream of the darkness
Haunting me?””

LISTEN TO MY VOICE. WHAT DO YOU HEAR?

Something dear,
something queer,
I had no word for what I heard.

Tugging,
pulling
me
towards Light.

“Sir, there is passion in your words.
For what I do not
know.”

CHILD, YOU HEAR A PASSION OF
LOVE FOR YOU.
DOES IT
SCARE?

LOVE, another intriguing word.
Unknown in my world.
Does it scare?
Yes!

“Will LOVE hurt?”

YES, IN GLORIOUS WAYS!”

“Sir, you speak in peculiar ways.”

Trust in a song?
Dazzles
are bright,
but why is Light better than Gloom?
I have room in the night, but out there?
Shivers
run.
I become frightened.

Darkness, I know.
“Sir, I don’t know you at all.”

Brilliant flashes
most curious lights,
fly in my
eyes,
contrasting with spurious
shadows of
night.
What? What are their surprises?

COLORS, DO YOU LIKE MY COLORS, CHILD?

Colors, Yes!
Darkness has such words.
Suddenly hungry
for
colors and words.

“Sir, are you Colors”
Will you take me to colors?
And words,
Let me eat my fill,
Let them spill onto me.
I am not afraid of colors.
Please, Sir, Colors.”

“And words.”

I AM LIGHT.
MY COLORS WILL SURROUND IF YOU LIKE.
COME, SEE MORE.
TRUST ME TO LOVE YOU IN A GLORIOUS WAY.

Colors sail
blown by a gale of a song.
New words erupt from my brain;
silver, emerald,
ruby,
gold, shimmer,
shine, so fine a blue,
green,
in between
iris and daffodil,
rainbow.
The words laughed, YES, they laughed!

My mouth did a strange thing.
“Sir, what is happening to me?”

CHILD, YOU ARE SMILING, A BEAUTIFUL SMILE.

Smiling.
Rare fun.
New words.
I know something new.
Smililng once begun,
is difficult to stop.
Hurt?
LOVE hurt?
Not seen, not yet believed.
Maybe being awake is a very good thing?

“Sir, bring me more, more.
I am unquenchable.
Before
There was---
Sir??/
You haven’t left me alone?”

CHILD, I’LL BE WITH YOU ALWAYS IF YOU
ASK ME TO STAY.
DO YOU WANT?

Do I want?
OH YES!
“Sir, YES! I do.”

THEN COME WITH ME AND SWIM IN COLORS.
BUT REMEMBER
MY LOVE,
IT IS GLORIOUS,
BUT IT
HURTS.

Hesitation.
On the brink—
Darkness or Colors.
Light brings Songs! Songs!
I long for more.
Now, talking and walking with one,

Not alone.
Yes, two.
Do I dare leave?
Asleep or awake?
Decision to make.
Smiling songs bounce with joy. Joy? Joy?
Where once
Despair?

“Sir, Your songs have bewildered me
right into choice.
Smiling, singing,
Your colorful voice,
Wind blessing me.
I’ll not depart, BUT
Remember—
My heart;
I long not to hurt.”

Dear Child, I”LL TAKE CARE OF YOU.
YOU’LL LEARN MANY WORDS, PAINT WITH
MY COLORS
AND
LOVE
IN A
GLORIOUS WAY.
