From my recent experience I can truly tell you, “If you don’t use them you lose them. They truly become weak and inadequate.” I am of course referring to body parts I sometimes forget to use: mind, heart, muscles, eyes, legs, arms etc. When I realize this, I get after myself to use these and give them a good workout.

Now that we have something we can relate to physically, let us now go back to the real subject of this article. The church, the body of Christ.

God, through His Holy Spirit, has given us each different gifts. We are not all given the same gifts, so that when we are put together we can compliment and complete each other. In this way, all the different “body parts” are put together to make a whole body.

Fortunately God is in control, otherwise we might have a body walking around that is only made up of feet or hands or mouths etc.

Now that God has put this body together in a group of believers, it is up to this body to get busy and “use all those parts to the best of their God given ability” and “not to hinder any other part”.

What good is a body that says to its eyes, “I don’t need you, I’ll just cover you with a blindfold and try to get along without you”?

Unfortunately, this is happening in so many churches today. Elite members have taken it upon themselves to decide who has what gift and exactly how they should use it. They encourage some, discourage others, overwork some, ignore others, and even assign some to a job they are not suited for.

Have you ever tried walking with your ears or listening with your feet?

How about walking on 20 hands instead of two feet?

How much would you get done in those circumstances?

Is your church truly doing the work that God has ordained you to do or has your church become handicapped, because they are more concerned with pleasing men rather then pleasing God?

How many of your church members know what their Spiritual gifts are? I am not talking about God given abilities that we all have, but gifts of the Spirit.

And if they know what these gifts are, are they being encouraged to use them?

In other words, do you belong to a church that takes good care of all its body parts?

Christians Should Lead Transformed Lives
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Serve God with Spiritual Gifts

3For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Spiritual Gifts: Unity in Diversity

1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: 2You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. 3Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.
4There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

Unity and Diversity in One Body

12For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. 14For in fact the body is not one member but many. 15If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body? 16And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body? 17If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? 18But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 19And if they were all one member, where would the body be?
