... whose blood Pilate had mingled with the sacrifice..
.
Luke 13:1

I wonder how often I’m guilty of ‘mingling’ my blood with the pure, undefiled blood of the Lamb of God? How often I’ve contaminated Jesus’ sacrifice with the ‘blood’ of my own works?

Isn’t that how Satan operates? Doesn’t he want me bemused about my input, about my ‘contributions’ enhancing God’s working?

How easily I confuse the gardens....Eden....Gethsemane. Eden haunts me, from my earliest childhood days. Innocence, understanding ... was lost there. My innocence! My understanding! And I keep going back, looking for ... longing after ... what is gone. Working, mingling bloods, to restore what can only be restored in another time. Another place. Another garden.

Gethsemane, that garden of ‘laying down’ all remnants of ‘self.’ Gethsemane, where Jesus asked, not for the cup, but for the Father’s removal of it ... if there was any other way. Jesus didn’t seek His blood-letting. Though He submitted to it, when the Father whispered, “No other way!”

My enemy, God’s enemy, the enemy of the Kingdom, wants me continuously grasping after what belongs to the Lamb. Wants me mingling bloods.

Oh, precious Lord, Holy and Spotless Lamb ... You whose blood purchased my inheritance ... lead me aright, to Your heart. Forgive my ‘mingling’ ways that would contaminate Your perfect purchase. Open my understanding. Though Eden’s longing may fill my soul, let me not grasp its fruit. Let me not make my own sacrifice ‘of covering’ ... which only adds more death. Lead me to Gethsemane, where all I am lays down the cup of my desires. Bend my knee before Your will. And if there be a cup to drink, may it only be the cup You stretch out to me.

May my resistance to submit to the Father's will, surrender itself at the foot of the cross... not my will, Lord. Keep teaching me, molding me, refining me to that end. Amen!
