When I am kind to others and offer them a smile
Is it because I value them and feel they are worthwhile?

Or is it obligation that draws the niceness out?
Just grit my teeth and bear it, holding back the urge to shout

Perhaps it’s utter selfishness that makes me smile and nod
To agree with other points of view while wearing my facade

I just want them to like me, reputation I must save
I have to go the extra mile and never make a wave

But what glory has my Father if I’m always “saving face”
Thriving on the world’s approval, not depending on God’s grace?

Kindness reflects the Savior, arms wide open, all the way
Lord, help me lose myself and share your kind of love today
