Testimonies
Mairi, my personal testimony, to encourage you in this difficult time.
In 1985 I sustained what was called a Closed Head Injury, today it’s called a Traumatic Brain Injury. Without going into a long story, I was attempting to help my brother remove an Oak tree limb that had the trunk end still in the tree and the limb end on the ground. As we attempted to move the limb, it separated from the tree and fell to the ground, lifting me off the ground. I fell flat on my back and struck the back of my head on vary hard ground. I was knocked unconscious. As in your situation, my sister-in-law, a nurse, was there and immediately began to evaluate my condition. Once stabilized, she went for medical help.
Life Flight (an aerial ambulance) from a local hospital was dispatched to transport me into the hospital. I had suffered a traumatic blow to the back of my head. Without going into detail, this kind of injury severely damages the brain, brain cells are damaged and messages from those cells are lost or distorted. I was placed in Neuro Intensive Care where I stayed for approximately 9 days, unconscious and on life support.
My accident occurred on a Saturday afternoon, that night because of the severity of my injury, my systems were not functioning correctly and I could have died. By Gods grace, I am here today.
My minister was called to the hospital that night to comfort my family and take a healing message back to our church. Beginning that day and night and for many months to follow I was lifted up in prayer by my church family and close friends. I have no doubt that I could have died that night, but with Gods grace I was allowed to stay here to serve him in ways that were yet to be shown to me.
A verse has served me well these many years, LUKE 11; 9 ASK AND IT SHALL BE GIVEN YOU; SEEK AND YE SHALL FIND; KNOCK AND IT SHALL BE OPENED UNTO YOU. Another that I don’t have scriptural reference for is: “As thoughts become deeds, deeds become habits and habits become our destiny”.
I was in the hospital from the middle of November till just before Christmas. I remember vividly one of my first trips out after I got home. We were in a department store shopping and I became so week that I had to lean against a shelf to remain upright. As the weeks turned into months (I was let go from my job because I could not perform it as expected), 7 of them, I found that I was unable to do menial tasks that I had done without thought before the accident. I went through a Rehabilitation program to see what skills I still had to enable me to go back to work. This time, as yours will be, was very trying for someone who had handled most things before without much thought.
After this 7 month period, I was able to get a state job where I live. God blessed me with 17 years till my current disability set in and I had to take early retirement and go through the process for Social Security Disability. I’m currently disabled and don’t get out much by myself. Again, challenges that, God has placed in my path, for me to find ways around.
I’ve digressed a little, but that comes with where I am today. Chuckle
After the accident and God had spared me, I knew there was a path or task(s) that he had waiting for me. I’ve spent these years since being sensitive to Gods will in and for my life. I’ve served as Sunday School Teacher, Director of a church related youth program, ministered to single people (divorced and never married), Church Choir, Deacon and other meaningful ways within the church and community.
Guess what I’m trying to say to you is that although you can’t see much beyond the present, God has a plan and a will for your young life. Just think of the testimony you’ll be to other young people. Praise be to our God!
Thank you for this opportunity to share a difficult time I’ve had with you to show you there is hope, regardless of the length of time it takes. Your young, you have your life ahead of you, let God care for you know and lead you to where he would have you later in life.
I’ll close with an expression that I’m very devoted to. “In Gods time, not ours”
Mairi, your in our thoughts and prayers daily.
God bless you, from another who has had trying times medically
