Just one more month...the deadline
For filing your 'return.'
And certainty of taxes,
We, early on, ALL learn.

We gripe and growl...but then 'pay up'
And swear at such a 'mess.'
But things might go from bad to worse
WITHOUT the IRS!

Now...I ain't fond of tax time...
Don't call the 'white coats' in,
I'm being realistic,
So hear me out, my friend.

I see a lot of good things
That most could not supply,
If on resources we have saved
We each had to rely.

So 'bout this time of year, I get
The papers in a 'row'
And off to my accountant
With paperwork I go.

It's 'pins and needles' for a while
The figures they 'compute'
They factor everything in place...
Some things I 'claim'...they 'boot!'

"Now Mr. Pierce, it seems that you
Have paid to Uncle Sam
A little more than asked for...
You've gone beyond demand.

So, sign, right there, and date it,
Then to Post Office...run!
Then wipe the sweat, and settle in...
And wait for your 're-fund'!"

Oh happy day when it arrives
The feeling's so sublime.
I had no penalties to pay
Because I beat the deadline!
