Across from a hulking brick mastodon,

Standing only to defy time
And to peddle an occasional memory
Where merchants once poured
from its mouth
Like words from a delusional orator
A streetlight begins its noisy serenade

To chase the horizon
As darkness creeps from its hiding places

Aware of its implausible incandesce
It begins to sing a low hum
Hypnotically soothing the relentless veil
Straining with determined resolve
To hold obscurity at bay

Forgotten trains roar by in applause

At the vigils completion
The noisy streetlight bows to
dawns ovation
Embracing anonymity

Triumphant
