THE CROSS

It’s become a symbol and a trend
A tradition and an icon of religion
But 2000 years ago
It told a deeper tale
About a man
Whose pain became my gain
Who knew shame at the expense of fame

Yesterday’s sorrow’s
Has become today’s joy
The rugged cross
A hope to a dying world
Alone he carried the cross
On his bruised back
Along steeply slopes
To teach us a simple way
A lifestyle rooted in sacrifice

It’s okay to wear the cross
As a symbol on our neckline
But more importantly
I must follow the master’s path
For he walked the way of the cross

Thus my cross I’ll carry
The master I’ll follow
No shame I bear
His glory I seek
His passion has become
My life’s mission
To give up my comfort
That someone else may
Come to know
The way of the cross
