With one foot
in this world
and the other foot
in the other world
We watch him
come in and out.
in and out,
staying longer there.
I once spoke to him
as daughter to father.
In this window of time,
I talk to him in the spirit.
We sing songs,
take communion,
share dreams,
and share the last hours.
It is a special time
of ushering him
into the Kingdom,
into his new home.
He is giving us the gift
of cracking the door open
so we can see
a tiny glimpse of light.
The door will close soon,
and he will sneak out,
with that last breath,
with that last tap by an angel.
We will wait
to see him
to join him
on the other side of the wall.
Where we know
there is a party happening.
We know because
we can almost hear it.
