We have revival, some preachers tell us. A look around shows it’s simply not true. Another favourite pulpit claim (to make us think something will soon happen) is “Revival is on the way.” It’s always “on the way,” but like the proverbial “cheque in the mail” it doesn’t arrive. It never will under the present set-up. So what do we see?

Satan is having a wonderful time. There are shops in the High Street with signs outside proclaiming palm reading, taro cards and clairvoyancy. The local newspaper has the same ads in the classifieds. Many, not just one or two. There’s probably an occult-based “spiritual” weekly article too.

GAY PARADES

The gays (that isn’t what the Bible calls them) have annual Mardi Gras-type events in big cities. In Australia the Sydney police force has marched in such a parade. Yes we know, God loves homosexuals and lesbians too— but the Bible says He hates what they do.

Satan has the TV stations in the palm of his hand too, broadcasting a nightly dose of carnality by way of lust and violence. Sitcoms treat adultery and casual sex as something to joke about as if it’s the latest fashion—which it then becomes for many. It’s enough to make one weep.

COUNTERFEIT

False religions are promoted as the real thing, and millions have the mistaken belief “all roads lead to God.” They will get an awful shock. The world needs to know the words of Jesus: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

Only a few are presenting the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ publicly. How many Jehovah’s Witnesses or Mormons have knocked at your door? My guess is plenty! They want you to join their church and doctrine, compared to those few preaching Christ who want you to follow Him.

NO-CAN-DO

The world is this way because like in the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:18) the Christian gospel has been buried and hidden. Not inside the church of course, but most hearing it there are saved anyway. The cause of Christ has mostly been put in the “can’t-go-public” basket.

We are in a war but God’s army isn’t fighting. The weapons of our warfare (Ephesians 6) are always polished, shiny, waiting for us to take up. Yet they remain unused, locked inside individuals and the church.

The sword of the Spirit remains in its scabbard, the breastplate of righteousness isn’t worn. Neither are the helmet of salvation and shield of faith. This spiritual armour was described by the Apostle Paul to be used in standing for God among the unbelievers, as he did.

“Never mind, God is at work,” some Christians say. Well, He isn’t getting much help from us. Jesus said it’s our task, Mark 16:15.

MIGHTY MEN

Where is the Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, and the John F. (& Robert) Kennedy of today? They spoke out against injustice and got things changed, though it meant an early death for the latter three.

We have an ungodly, materialistic western world because in recent years we have failed to take the gospel message outside the church walls. Millions are on the road to hell. We must do what we can to change that.

We must go where the people are—they won’t come to us. We must present the true gospel to them, no matter how unpalatable, or how unreceptive they are. All God’s promises that back us in doing it— and the spiritual equipment to do it—are there in the Word.
