US President Barack Obama created monstrous political waves with this statement. (In a second-term election campaign speech on July 13, 2012, in Roanoke, Virginia).  "Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business, you didn't build that." His political opponents made ”political hay” from that statement.

It is true that there are no self-made men.  Many contributed to a person’s success along the way, such as parents, educators, personal mentors, industry, highway systems, and sometimes government help. However, many other persons with the same amount of help from others produced little or no results.  It was because of the initiative and hard work of the individual that success was produced.

But that’s not the entire story for successful businessmen, inventors, educators, entertainers, blue-collar workers, or others.

God had something to say about this to the person who has accepted Christ as his personal Savior.

.  “For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? Now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?” (1 Corinthians 4:7 KJV).  “Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:  But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.” (Jeremiah 9:23-24 KJV). Your talents and abilities are a gift from God.

Every ability that you have, God gave it to you.

What about your possessions?

“The earth is the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. (Psalm 24:1 KJV). “The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them. (Psalm 89:11 KJV).  ”For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.  If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fullness thereof.” (Psalm 50:10-12 KJV). “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:” (Colossians 1:16 KJV).

You don’t own anything! Your home, your car, your truck, your motorcycle, your boat, your TVs, your electronic gadgets, your home décor, and your books all belong to God.  They are possessions on loan from God. He is allowing you to use them while on your short journey on earth.  And you are accountable to God for how you use each of these things.

You are living in God’s home, driving God’s car, and using God’s possessions!

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”  (Matthew 6:33 KJV).  “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Luke 12:34 KJV).

What about your heart, your soul, and your body?

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?  For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV). “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”  (1 Peter 1:18-19 KJV).

You are Christ’s possession.  You belong to Him.  Give your all to Him today.
