Or, What do you want to be remembered for?

#19 in “Blessing for Senior Saints” series

In a genealogy of Esau’s descendants is this strange legacy of one man. “Anah that found the mules.” (Genesis 36:24 KJV)

The Hebrew word translated “mules” is an unusual word, only used this one time in the Bible. There is disagreement among scholars as to whether it should be translated as “mules,” or “hot springs.”  But,whatever the true meaning is, Anah is remembered for finding them.

What do you want to be remembered for?  Whether you realized it or not, you have been building your own legacy all of your life.  Some may relate this to leaving an inheritance of money or possessions. But, there is more than material things in a legacy.

Solomon said in Proverbs 22:1, ‘A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches.”  He also said in Proverbs 20:7, “ The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.”

 What do you want to be remembered for by your children, your grandchildren, other relatives, fellow church members, other friends, and your co-workers at your job?

Building your legacy is a marathon, not a sprint. It involves the entirety of how you lived your life.  Did you practice what you preached? Did you help others develop their Christian character, their family life, and their career?  Were you a mentor to others? Did you demonstrate Christian love to those around you? Did you work to develop your own Christian character?  Did you volunteer to help others?  This list could go on endlessly.

Whatever you have or have not done, you still have the rest of your life to work on your legacy. Give those who know you great memories to grow by.
