#10 in “Blessing for Senior Saints” series
The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.” (Psalm 92:12-14 KJV)
You don’t have to sit on the sidelines! You can be fruitful for the Lord in old age.
Notice in this Scripture that a personal spiritual foundation has been laid. First of all, you have trusted Christ as Savior, perhaps many years ago. Then you have been planted in the house of the Lord. You have a lifetime of being in the Lord’s house. Church has been a regular part of your life for years – you have been “planted.” Now, in old age, you are still keeping as active as possible in church (the courts of our God.”)
We are compared to the palm tree (date palm valued for its fruit) and the cedar (valued for its wood). We will flourish- be vigorous. In old age, we will still be fruitful. Keep in mind that fruit is not just preaching, teaching, singing, playing an instrument, soulwinning, or some other public ministry. We may or may not be able to perform public ministries. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.´ Galatians 5:22-23. There are many non-public ways to be fruitful. One way is by having a sweet, helpful, non-complaining attitude.
The Psalm 92 Scripture says we will be fat and flourishing. In the Old Testament, the word “fat” stood as a sign of healthfulness and vigor. As senior saints, we can demonstrate a healthy and vigorous spiritual life.
