“The Bigfoots are coming!” Rob shouted, running towards the cabin.
“Shouldn’t that be Bigfeets?” asked Nora.
“Bigfeet sounds better to me,” Adriana added.
Rob stood in the doorway exasperated. “Doesn’t matter what they are called. They’re coming and there’s a bunch of them. They’re headed this way!”
Nora looked up from her sewing. “I thought they usually stay by themselves.”
“I thought so too, but remember that place we found out in the woods?” Rob asked.
“You mean that structure that looked like some ancient civilization built it?” Adriana’s eyes grew wide.
Rob nodded. “Yep.”
“You think they’re headed there? What for?” Nora still was not sure.
“Well, that would explain its existence.”
Adriana jumped up from the floor. “You think it’s a meeting hall for the Bigfeet?”
A strange sound from outside the cabin interrupted their discussion. The girls looked towards the window with wide eyes. Rob turned his head as well.
Turning back to face the girls, Rob whispered, “Let’s go find out.”
Without a word, they quietly got up, wrapped their coats about them while Rob grabbed a weapon. Carefully, they left the cabin and headed out into the damp, cool woods to see what was going on. Nora still wondered if Bigfoot was real, but she figured this excursion would prove the answer once and for all.
Rob led his sisters towards the old stone structures they had seen many times. As they grew nearer, the sounds from the strange creatures became louder and more frequent. Peering through the brush, they could see the place. It looked different than they had seen it before. The creatures each had branches in their hands with which they erase their tracks. Now, as they gathered inside the perimeter of the stone pillars, they wound the branches together in unison with the stones. Walls began to form around the place as they gathered. Soon, a roof and floor appeared.
“What are they doing?” whispered Adriana.
“Constructing a meeting hall?” suggested Nora in an even quieter tone.
Each Bigfoot, when it had placed its branches in their place, turned to greet the others. Mothers showed off their infants while old friends seemed to reminisce all the happenings since they last met. More came to the gathering one by one.
After some time, the Bigfoot people seemed to grow more solemn. They seemed to be waiting for someone. Their construction had taken on a particularly unusual shape, unlike anything Rob, Nora, and Adriana had ever seen.
Suddenly, the birds hushed their chirping. The bugs quieted down. The forest seemed to hold its breath. All of the Bigfoot people stood watching silently. The ground began to tremble beneath their feet. With a loud trumpeting call, the largest Bigfoot they had ever seen marched out into view. This one, though he carried branches, did not bother to cover all his tracks. Instead, he marched straight for the gathering and walked in amongst them. They moved aside with deep respect to make way for this king of Bigfoots.
Inside the pavilion, he went to the center of the construction and placed his branches in a peculiar fashion so that they stood up in the middle. All the Bigfoot people watched in expectation.
With precise movements, the Bigfoot king grasped what seemed to be some kind of controls. The whole pavilion began to move. Even the giant stones that had stood for as long as the kids could remember moved. With a great roar, the pavilion began to rise from the ground. It stood a few feet above the ground for a moment. All the Bigfoot people cheered.
Rob, Nora, and Adriana stood with their mouths open in shock at the scene before them. The pavilion, now apparently some kind of air craft, rose and flew away out of the kids’ sight.
“Did you get a picture?” asked Adriana when she was able to shut her mouth and reopen it again.
“Uh, um. No, I forgot the camera at the house,” Nora stuttered.
“Not sure they would have let us get a picture anyway. You saw how they covered their tracks and such. And then they left by air, leaving no trace.” Rob was just as awestruck as his sisters.
“Oh well, no one would believe a picture like that anyway. Too much technology now days. They would just say it was fake. The people who would believe a picture would believe our story without the picture,” Nora said matter-of-factly.
Adriana clapped her little hands. “So that’s what those weird stones were! Part of the Bigfeets’ aircraft for when they have their big reunion!”
“I wonder where they are going,” Rob mused.
“Maybe they were going… home?” Nora suggested.
“Like the King came to take his Bigfoot people home?” Adriana questioned.
Nora shrugged. “I don’t know, but I can’t wait for the day our King comes for us.”
